About the role

Role Overview

As the first AI Product Engineer at GovWell, you will help shape how the company applies AI to real-world problems in government services. You will design, prototype, build, and launch AI-powered workflow automation products that are intuitive, reliable, and auditable.

Responsibilities

  • Own AI product development end-to-end, from identifying agency and resident needs to shipping production-ready solutions.
  • Design and build AI-powered workflow automation products that transform how governments process and deliver services.
  • Collaborate with design, engineering, and government domain experts to turn generative AI into usable, dependable, and auditable workflows.
  • Iterate quickly from prototype to production, refining features using data and customer feedback.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software/product engineering experience in high-growth startup environments.
  • Experience building user-facing applications for enterprises and/or consumers.
  • Hands-on experience building products with generative AI, including strong familiarity with:
    • LLMs
    • Vector databases
    • Retrieval systems
  • Product-minded builder focused on usability and impact as well as technical depth.
