About the role
Role Overview
The Hartford is seeking an AI Platform Principal Engineer (Google Cloud Platform) to build AI Operations (AIOps/MLOps/LLMOps/FMOps) services for its AI Platform team. You will help deliver modern, reliable data science products that generate measurable enterprise outcomes across functions like Actuarial, Product, Underwriting, and Sales.
Responsibilities
- Develop value-added AI platform features that extend core cloud and vendor tooling for enterprise needs.
- Research, experiment with, and implement GenAI algorithms, tools, and technologies.
- Explore and adopt new capabilities in AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Azure to support ML/GenAI services.
- Enhance platform functionality with strong engineering expertise in AI/ML, agentic frameworks, and modern data technologies.
- Establish and promote best practices in AI/ML and data engineering across teams.
- Architect and design end-to-end solutions at the component level.
- Collaborate with partners across Enterprise Data, Data Science, Business, Cloud Enablement, and Enterprise Architecture.
- Own execution of engineering tasks with minimal guidance; optimize workflows.
- Provide technical mentorship and support team career growth.
- Review work of systems-level engineers to ensure deliverables meet project and business expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
- 10+ years building and shipping enterprise software and/or platform solutions.
- Terraform: 5+ years.
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) proven experience.
- Must have experience with GCP BigQuery, Cloud Functions, AI Platform, API Gateway, and GKE/Docker.
- CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, automated deployments.
- Agile experience and unit/integration testing.
- Experience building scalable serverless applications (real-time/batch) using cloud technologies.
- Knowledge of distributed NoSQL databases and data engineering/ETL.
Nice to Haves
- Python experience.
- Experience with other clouds (AWS).
- Experience with libraries/frameworks/platforms used across multiple teams.
- Conversational UX/UI, chatbots, and Human-Agent Interaction (HAI).
- Experience with information retrieval (IR), vector embeddings, and hybrid/semantic search.
- Additional GCP tooling knowledge.
