AI Developer / AI Engineer – Applied & Agentic AI – $130K to $250K+ Base

Role Overview

Direct-hire, fully remote AI roles with U.S. mid-market companies. You’ll build AI systems that move beyond demos into production and remain reliable under load.

Two Role Tracks

AI Developer (Developer Track)

• Build LLM-powered applications and agentic systems
• Use model APIs (e.g., Claude, GPT)
• Implement retrieval (RAG) with vector databases
• Develop with agent frameworks, tool use, and orchestration
• Integrate AI into a real product or operational workflow

AI Engineer (Engineer Track)

• Own training and fine-tuning
• Build model serving and inference systems
• Implement MLOps, pipelines, and operational tooling
• Provide infrastructure that keeps models fast, reliable, and affordable at scale

Responsibilities

• Deliver production-ready AI systems that real users/operations rely on
• Make and defend technical architecture/trade-off decisions
• Produce clean, maintainable work the client team can operate after you ship

Requirements

• Proven experience: you must have built and shipped complex AI systems to production
• Ability to walk through your most complex personally built AI system: purpose, your role, hardest technical decision, and how you verified it worked
• Strong engineering fundamentals with real code (not demo-only work)
• Track-specific production experience:
  • Developer Track: LLM APIs, RAG, vector databases, agent frameworks
  • Engineer Track: training/fine-tuning, model serving, MLOps, scaling
• Ability to explain verification/validation methods and communicate to both engineers and executives
• Traits: independent, results-driven, detail-oriented, dependable, self-motivated

Nice-to-Haves

• Demonstrated judgment in making hard technical calls and verifying system behavior
• Experience integrating AI into existing products/workflows
