AI Agent Software Engineer Intern

Role Overview

As an AI Agent Software Engineer Intern at Cantaloupe, you’ll design and build agentic AI systems that can plan, reason, and act across tools and services. The goal is to go beyond chatbots by enabling agents to call APIs, orchestrate tools, and complete multi-step tasks with minimal human intervention.

Responsibilities

• Write clean, tested, optimized, and well-documented code following established standards.
• Design agentic AI solutions integrating with:
  • Cloud platforms
  • Observability systems
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Incident response workflows (to reduce time to resolution)
• Build evaluations and feedback loops to quantify impact using a data-driven approach.
• Develop capabilities for AI-driven systems that support autonomous workflows.

Requirements

• Interest in AI-driven systems, especially LLM-powered applications and reasoning systems.
• Strong programming fundamentals and test automation.
• Proficiency with:
  • Python
  • JSON-based APIs
  • PyTorch
  • SQL
  • Linux scripting and scheduling

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior industry and cloud work experience or internships.
• Master’s in Computer Science (or equivalent systems experience).
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms: Azure and/or AWS.
• Experience with modern infrastructure tooling.
• AI/ML and LLM application experience, such as:
  • Prompt Engineering
  • RAG
  • LangChain
  • Vector Databases
  • Azure Foundry
• Builder mindset, strong communication, and interpersonal skills.

Program Details

• Dates: June 1st – August 21st
• Mentorship and coaching with interns across multiple departments.

Location / Work Policy

• Based in Malvern, PA or Atlanta, GA (local candidates preferred).
• Remote candidates will also be considered.
• May involve responsibilities related to SOX compliance.
