AI Agent Software Engineer Intern

Role overview

As an AI Agent Software Engineer Intern at Cantaloupe Inc, you’ll design and build agentic AI systems that can plan, reason, and act across tools and services. You’ll go beyond chatbots by enabling agents to call APIs, orchestrate tools, and complete multi-step tasks with minimal human intervention.

Responsibilities

• Write clean, tested, optimized, and well-documented code following established standards.
• Design agentic AI solutions integrating with:
  • cloud platforms
  • observability systems
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • incident response workflows (to reduce time to resolution)
• Build evaluations and feedback loops to quantify value in a data-driven way.
• Develop AI systems that effectively support autonomous workflow execution.

Requirements

• Interest in AI-driven systems and experience with LLM-powered applications and reasoning/autonomous workflow concepts.
• Strong programming fundamentals.
• Experience around test automation.
• Proficiency with Python and JSON-based APIs.
• Knowledge of PyTorch, SQL, Linux scripting, and scheduling.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and modern infrastructure tooling.

Preferred qualifications

• Prior industry experience (or internships) related to cloud work.
• Master’s in Computer Science or equivalent systems experience.
• Experience with AI/ML and:
  • Prompt Engineering
  • RAG
  • LangChain
  • Vector Databases
  • Azure Foundry
• Strong communication skills and a builder’s mindset.
• Local candidate preference (also considers remote).

Program details / logistics

• Internship dates: June 1 – August 21.
• Mentorship and coaching with interns across multiple departments.
• Location: Malvern, PA or Atlanta, GA; local candidates preferred, remote candidates considered.
• May involve responsibilities related to SOX compliance.
