About the role
Role Overview
Agile Scrum Master for West Coast teams (Remote/Hybrid). You will facilitate Scrum across one or more IT delivery teams, coach Agile adoption, and ensure practices align with regulated biotech/life sciences IT requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies: sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
- Act as a servant-leader/coach to help teams adopt and mature Agile/Scrum
- Remove impediments and protect team focus by mitigating external distractions
- Partner with Product Owners to maintain a healthy, well-groomed backlog aligned to business and IT priorities
- Track and report sprint metrics (velocity, burndown, cycle time) and use data to drive continuous improvement
- Foster collaboration across IT, R&D, Quality, and other cross-functional stakeholders
- Support multiple teams/programs in a scaled Agile environment (e.g., SAFe, Scrum of Scrums)
- Ensure Agile practices align with compliance/validation needs typical in biotech/life sciences IT (e.g., GxP, CSV, SOX)
- Coach teams and stakeholders on Agile values, principles, and practices
- Identify/mitigate risks impacting sprint or release commitments
- Support tooling/process improvements using Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps
- Travel to the San Francisco office ~2x/month for key ceremonies and leadership syncs
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years experience as a Scrum Master or Agile facilitator in IT/software delivery
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and ability to tailor practices
- Experience with Agile PM tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, Rally, or similar)
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote/distributed environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Business/IT/CS or related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in biotech, pharma, life sciences, or other regulated industries
- Familiarity with GxP, Computer System Validation (CSV), and SOX compliance for IT delivery
- Experience supporting scaled Agile frameworks (SAFe, LeSS) across multiple teams
- Advanced certifications (e.g., SAFe SM/RTE, PSM II, A-CSM)
- Experience supporting IT systems for Commercial, R&D, clinical operations, manufacturing, or Quality functions
