About the role

Role Overview

Accounting Manager within Voya IM Controllership, reporting to the VP, Controller. This is a remote/work-from-home role. The position combines technical accounting expertise with people leadership, with a strong emphasis on employee compensation accounting, leadership development, automation/process transformation, and strategic partnership.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review legal entity financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, IFRS, and Proxy/SAI investment fund data.
  • Lead compliance activities with applicable regulatory bodies and examinations (e.g., CT Banking Examiners, Department of Labor).
  • Represent Voya IM with external constituencies; respond to internal/external and departmental audits.
  • Oversee accounting and reporting for employee compensation programs, including:
    • Annual incentive compensation
    • Deferred compensation plans
    • Equity-based compensation arrangements
    • Long-term incentive programs
  • Ensure proper accrual methodologies and adherence to applicable accounting guidance.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, Compensation, and Finance teams for accurate accounting and reporting.
  • Coordinate accounting and financial operations between Voya Financial and Voya IM to ensure consistent, transparent results.
  • Support maintenance of internal financial controls in line with US GAAP, SOX, company policy/procedures, and legal/statutory requirements.
  • Build relationships with operational leaders and internal/external auditors.
  • Manage workload prioritization to deliver on time.
  • Set performance expectations and develop team members via coaching, mentoring, and feedback; support succession planning and employee engagement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business/Administration.
  • 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience in a complex environment, particularly in financial reporting and expense management (and monthly close context mentioned).

Nice to Have

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams through complex accounting matters.
  • Deep expertise in compensation, revenue, and investment accounting.
