About the role
Role Overview
Staff Software Engineer (Front-End) developing the ECL Command Center and internal web-based applications that power the Emerald Cloud Laboratory platform. As an early team member, you'll take ownership of projects, contribute to software engineering practices, and work closely with the design team to deliver exceptional UX.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain frontend applications using React, HTML5, and CSS3
- Build the notebook interface for Emerald's Symbolic Lab Language (SLL)
- Create team-based features for managing research projects and workflows
- Develop point-and-click command builders to onboard users
- Build desktop application platform capabilities
- Lead projects and take ownership of feature development
- Contribute to software engineering practices and process improvements
- Work alongside the design team on UX implementation
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in website development
- Demonstrated technical leadership experience
- BS and/or graduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript
- Familiarity with React and Redux or equivalent frameworks
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Electron
- Willingness to push boundaries of client-side web development
- Experience with website testing frameworks (Cypress, Percy, Storybook, Chromatic)
- Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills
- Excellent written communication and documentation skills
- Experience working closely with creative/design teams
- Attention to detail and focus on beautiful, friendly user interactions
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with multiple releases
