About the role

Role Overview

Sr Director of Software Engineering - Product & Platform Delivery at Runpod, a leading AI cloud infrastructure company. This is a senior engineering leadership role responsible for owning end-to-end delivery of customer-facing platform features across multiple teams, with focus on shipping quickly, safely, and consistently as demand scales.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Product Feature Delivery: Direct multiple engineering teams shipping new features and improving customer experience across console, APIs, and developer workflows with predictable, high-velocity execution
Translate Strategy to Results: Partner with Product, Program Management, and GTM to shape strategy, define quarterly goals, and convert requirements into clear technical scopes and measurable outcomes
Build High-Output Organization: Hire, mentor, and grow engineering managers and senior individual contributors; foster a culture of ownership, speed, and craft in remote-first environment
Drive Cross-Functional Launch Excellence: Own feature lifecycle processes including discovery, design/architecture reviews, build phases, QA, rollout plans, release communications, and post-launch iteration
Improve Engineering Systems: Drive measurable improvements in delivery and reliability through metrics such as cycle time, throughput, defect rates, incident frequency, and adoption
Ensure Customer-Aligned Prioritization: Align engineering work to user impact and business value using customer insights, product analytics, and operational data
Balance Quality & Velocity: Improve automated testing, staging/preview environments, observability, and regression prevention
Provide Architectural Stewardship: Oversee product systems architecture for backend services, APIs, and user workflows without becoming a bottleneck
Coordinate Infrastructure Dependencies: Partner with Infrastructure and SRE teams for seamless product delivery

Requirements

7+ years leading software engineering teams including managers and/or multiple squads (80+ person group) with proven record of shipping customer-facing products
8+ years building SaaS, platforms, or developer-facing products with full-stack or backend expertise
Demonstrated ability to take complex roadmap goals from concept through launch, balancing scope, risk, timelines, and quality
Comfortable with modern backend stacks and pragmatic architectural decisions
Experience building culture and accountability across distributed, remote-first teams
Strong use of delivery metrics (cycle time, throughput, escape defects, reliability, adoption) and experience improving team flow
Clear written and verbal communication with strong stakeholder management
Successful background check completion

Preferred Qualifications

Experience building cloud or developer platforms, APIs, or workflow-heavy products used by technical customers
