Role Overview

As a Software Engineer at Kohl's (promoted via Lensa), you will collaborate with design, product, and engineering experts to develop innovative solutions for retail applications. This is a multi-track position with several specialization paths available.

Core Responsibilities

Develop high-quality applications using extreme programming (XP) practices and user-centric approaches
Participate in the entire application lifecycle from conception to deployment
Leverage critical thinking, experimentation, and data-driven approaches to achieve business outcomes
Contribute to product engineering standards and advocate for reliability and tech debt reduction
Evaluate user stories for technical feasibility, acceptance criteria, and testability
Support team development through accountability and continuous learning
Adapt to constant change and model flexibility for the team

Backend Software Engineer Track

Develop using Java, JEE, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Batch, and Spring Security
Manage builds with Gradle or Maven
Work with distributed systems using Git, SQL/NoSQL databases, and Redis caching
Support full SDLC from requirements to deployment

Big Data Software Engineer Track

Design data pipelines using Apache Airflow, Spark, Python, SQL, and Kafka
Work with cloud data lakes (Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Snowflake)
Build real-time streaming pipelines using Kafka, KafkaConnect, and Flume
Implement data mesh and data-as-product topologies
Design GenAI integrations (OpenAI, Gemini, Llama)
Ensure PCI/PII compliance (GDPR, PCI DSS, SOX, CCPA)
Experience with GitLab, Docker, and Linux scripting

UI Software Engineer Track

Build user experiences with React and modern frameworks (Angular, Ember, Vue.js)
Work with Node.js and ECMAScript standards
Master CSS patterns, HTML, and responsive design
Integrate reusable component libraries

Android Software Engineer Track

Develop using Java and Kotlin for Android
Handle notifications and background tasks
Make REST API calls and network requests
Design and develop complete Android applications
Collaborate with iOS and server engineers

iOS Software Engineer Track

Build UI/UX with Storyboards, Nibs/Xibs
Work with Xcode, Objective-C/C++, and Swift
Make REST API calls and network requests
Collaborate with cross-platform teams
Experience with Interface Builder
