Software Engineer - Developer Experience

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer - Developer Experience at Indy, you'll improve the daily work of developers by building and maintaining tools that support our workflows. You'll work in a pragmatic environment focused on simple, effective solutions rather than over-engineered systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the internal platform, including monitoring, alerting, and cost management
• Drive continuous improvement of the developer experience by optimizing development tools and CI/CD pipelines
• Collaborate with developers to identify needs and propose tailored solutions
• Identify priorities, propose solutions, test, and iterate (no PM or pre-defined backlog)
• Diagnose and resolve performance issues, errors, and technical problems

Requirements

• At least 3 years of backend development experience with TypeScript, including similar experience with developer tooling
• Strong communication skills; ability to understand others' needs and build appropriate solutions
• Deep knowledge of the JavaScript ecosystem (monorepo, linters, tooling, testing, etc.)
• Experience deploying applications on managed platforms (Heroku, AWS, Aiven)
• Understanding of modern cloud architecture and CI/CD implementation
• Ability to design robust systems (queues, caching, reverse proxies, rate limiting)
• Strong security fundamentals (secrets management, WAF, authentication, XSS, DDoS protection)
• Pragmatic approach to problem-solving; comfortable with intelligent improvisation

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with Slack bots and internal scripting
• Familiarity with software quality metrics and monitoring
• Experience with infrastructure automation
