About the role

Role Overview

As a Software Developer - Backend (Member of Technical Staff), you'll design, develop, and sustain high-performance, scalable backend services while shaping TextNow's backend systems, architecture, and tooling. This role combines hands-on coding with strategic leadership and operates across multiple seniority levels (intermediate/senior/staff+).

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop high-performance, scalable backend services using Go microservices and modern cloud-native tooling
Lead architectural modernization initiatives to improve scalability, observability, and developer velocity
Own the complete lifecycle of systems: API design, data modeling, CI/CD deployment, live-traffic monitoring, integration testing, telemetry analysis, and A/B testing
Propose and lead technical initiatives including monolith decomposition, legacy code migration, and shared framework development
Apply AI-driven tools and automation to accelerate development, code analysis, testing, and reliability
Define observability standards, telemetry pipelines, and fault-tolerance strategies for distributed systems
Partner with product, mobile, and data teams to deliver seamless experiences across platforms
Mentor developers, drive technical discussions, and influence strategic direction across backend and infrastructure domains

Requirements

Deep expertise in Go programming
Proven track record architecting modular, maintainable, high-performance microservices
Strong background in system design, observability, and performance optimization
Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Argo CD, Protobuf, and CI/CD pipelines
Technical leadership experience with ability to create and lead roadmaps aligned to business objectives
Understanding of instrumentation, SLOs/SLIs, fault-tolerance, runbooks, and incident triage
Demonstrated ability to influence and mentor within technical organizations

Nice-to-Haves

Experience with PHP for legacy systems
Experience using AI and automation to improve developer velocity or system reliability
Track record in auto-scaling architecture design
