Senior Software Engineer, Backend GraphQL

Role Overview

Join the Viaduct team as a Senior Software Engineer working on a unified GraphQL data access layer that powers over 70% of Airbnb's API traffic. You'll help evolve Viaduct Modern, a revolutionary platform serving hundreds of internal developers and the open-source community.

Key Responsibilities

• Code in a high-impact, complex domain with protected focus time for deep work
• Navigate ambiguity and translate abstract requirements into concrete technical roadmaps
• Improve platform reliability, performance, and capabilities
• Partner with Viaduct tenant teams (product engineers) to support their mission
• Contribute to platform strategy and roadmap planning
• Share knowledge through collaboration and pairing with teammates
• Participate in on-call rotation with shared team responsibility

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in a relevant backend/platform engineering role
• Ideally, experience owning a developer platform
• Proficiency working cross-functionally with product and infrastructure engineers
• Experience operating critical online backend services
• Ability to ship high-visibility, complex coding projects
• Comfortable with ambiguity and requirements refinement

Nice-to-Haves

• Strong expertise with GraphQL
• Kotlin proficiency
• Experience with AI-enabled development flows
