Senior Manager, Software Test Engineering

Role Overview

As a Senior Manager, Software Test Engineering, you will build and manage a team responsible for verifying and validating Freenome's engineering software platform used in diagnostic products. You'll partner cross-functionally with engineering, product, regulatory, quality, and sciences teams to lead software verification and validation efforts while driving organizational success.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance teams to create robust, sustainable software validation processes that meet regulatory standards and guidelines
• Coordinate software testing efforts within and across teams, advocating for effective test strategies aligned with organizational goals
• Work with Product teams, Technical Project Managers, and Systems Integration teams to ensure features are production-ready and software quality is assured
• Support recruitment, technical staffing, and organizational design to structure and grow the testing team at scale
• Supervise training and development of test engineering staff, establishing unified software quality and development principles
• Evaluate team performance through comprehensive review processes and develop personal growth plans for direct reports
• Review and improve test plans, identify gaps in software testing, and coordinate actionable initiatives
• Design and develop resilient test frameworks and tooling for deployment across the engineering organization
• Drive the vision and strategy of an effective Software Testing Lifecycle with focus on comprehensive test automation

Must Haves

• BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, related technical field, or comparable experience
• 8+ years of software testing and quality experience with proven track record of proposing and executing successful test automation initiatives
• 3+ years of software test management experience, preferably in highly regulated industries (healthcare, medical devices) with demonstrated ability to structure, grow, and optimize teams
• Experience creating software quality processes, strategies, and metrics in Agile sprint planning environments
• Expertise in testing backend and frontend cloud software applications
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to mentor engineers, build testing culture, and partner with stakeholders
• Mindful, transparent, patient-centric approach driven by trust, integrity, and empathy

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Verification & Validation (V&V) for applications in high governance industries (HIPAA, CAP, CLIA, SOC2)
• Experience testing cloud-native distributed applications using Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or Pulumi
• Domain-specific experience in software as a medical device, healthcare, or related field
• Experience in risk management, project management, and resource planning in startup environments
• Direct clinical experience
