About the role

Role Overview

Senior Insurance Data Analyst (SQL Developer) for a Property & Casualty insurance environment. You will design, develop, and optimize data pipelines, data warehouse solutions, and reporting systems that enable underwriting, product, actuarial, and claims teams.

Responsibilities

  • Write complex SQL queries for ad hoc business requests and analytics needs.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for insurance data (policy, billing, claims, underwriting).
  • Design and support data warehouse environments (databases, data models, reporting layers).
  • Integrate data from policy administration, claims, and third-party insurance systems.
  • Automate data processes with validation, reconciliation, and robust error-handling controls.
  • Create and maintain reporting datasets, dashboards, and analytics tools for key insurance insights.
  • Partner with Underwriting, Actuarial, Product, Claims, and Finance teams to understand data requirements.
  • Support regulatory reporting, data governance, and compliance activities in an insurance domain.
  • Analyze trends (premiums, loss ratios, claims activity, retention) to support business decisions.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity across systems and reporting layers.
  • Maintain metadata, data lineage, and technical documentation for data assets.
  • Participate in system enhancements, data migrations, and implementation of new insurance technologies.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot production data processes; assist with on-call support as needed.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or a related technical role.
  • 2+ years working with P&C insurance data (policy, claims, billing, underwriting).
  • Strong ETL/ELT development and data pipeline architecture experience.
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake and/or Databricks (or similar).
  • Familiarity with reporting/visualization tools like Power BI and/or Tableau.
  • Understanding of insurance KPIs such as loss ratio, combined ratio, retention, and premium growth.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.

Nice to Haves

  • Familiarity with policy administration systems and insurance data platforms.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field.

Location / Work Mode

  • Fully remote, with a preference to reside in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Pennsylvania.
