About the role
Overview
Product Designer (Creative) at Mathspace—a role combining strong design craft, visual storytelling, and digital product design. You'll create engaging learning experiences for thousands of maths students and teachers globally, working within a collaborative, design-thinking-driven team.
Key Responsibilities
Product & UI Design
- Design responsive UI screens and components in Figma aligned with the design system
- Contribute to design system improvements (patterns, interactions, styles, documentation)
- Create and test prototypes with teachers and students alongside UX team
- Collaborate with product managers and developers to refine design details and deliver production-ready files
Creative Experience & Gamification
- Design gamified experiences (shops, rewards, challenges, quests)
- Create visual concepts for new features that appeal to age-appropriate audiences
- Contribute to storytelling moments that motivate students and delight teachers
Craft & Visual Design
- Create polished visual assets, icons, layouts, and supporting illustrations
- Use Adobe Creative Suite and/or Affinity when needed beyond Figma
- Maintain pixel-perfect quality with strong attention to detail
Innovation & AI
- Incorporate AI tools into your workflow (ideation, image generation, copy exploration, prototyping)
- Explore new creative and product possibilities with AI
- Bring a future-focused mindset to platform evolution
Required Qualifications
- Higher Ed Certificate in Design (UI, Graphic, Multimedia, or related field)
- Strong eye for detail and modern digital aesthetics
- Demonstrated taste and knowledge of current design trends
- Experience designing web or mobile interfaces using Figma
- Interest in designing for young people and teacher-facing tools
- Willingness to learn, experiment, and grow your skills
- Comfort using AI as a creative/design tool
- Ability to move forward independently on defined tasks with support
- Portfolio showcasing visual craft (UI, digital design, visual storytelling, or concepting)
Nice-to-Haves
- Motion graphics and/or illustration skills
- Experience with Rive
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects) or equivalent
- Experience with design systems
- Background in EdTech, gamification, or youth-focused brands
