About the role
Role Overview
As a Platform Software Engineer, you'll build and operate backend services and shared platform systems that power Happy Returns' products and internal workflows. You'll focus on designing and maintaining reliable APIs, data-access layers, and service integrations.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of implementing and delivering new features and projects using languages and frameworks such as Golang, Python, and PostgreSQL
- Build and maintain data pipelines and tooling powering analytics, operational workflows, and product capabilities
- Participate in architecture discussions and technical design reviews to ensure scalability, reliability, and security
- Conduct thoughtful code reviews and enforce clean code standards and excellent coding practices
- Learn from senior engineers, contribute to knowledge-sharing sessions, and expand technical skills
- Partner with Product, Data, and engineering teams to translate needs into technical solutions
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, and documentation
- Support system health and stability through testing, monitoring, and debugging
Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience building backend APIs or services
- Experience developing in Go, Python, or another backend language
- Familiarity with databases and data storage technologies
- Ability to ship clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
- Strong interest in collaborative environments and working with stakeholders
- Curiosity, adaptability, and readiness to explore new technologies
- Self-starter mindset with ability to learn independently and thrive in remote work
Nice-to-Have
- Expertise in multiple server-side languages (Go, Python)
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS
- Experience with data processing frameworks, ETL/ELT pipelines, or streaming systems
- Exposure to performance optimization, distributed systems fundamentals, or event-driven architectures
- Interest in e-commerce, logistics, developer experience, or building tooling for engineers
