Manager, Software Engineering

Role Overview

Manager of Software Engineering at Circle, responsible for leading dynamic engineering teams in building secure, scalable financial products and blockchain infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical management role combining team leadership with direct engineering contribution.

Key Responsibilities

• Run day-to-day engineering team operations including requirements grooming, scrums, retrospectives, and team activities
• Design, build, and maintain APIs, user-facing experiences, services, and systems
• Provide technical and architectural direction for platform development, design, integration, testing, and maintenance
• Lead agile software processes and introduce industry best practices
• Partner with stakeholders to align team contributions with company objectives and develop technology roadmaps
• Manage full lifecycle of team: recruiting, coaching, training, development, and performance evaluation
• Act as internal ambassador for engineering team, communicating technology opportunities and constraints
• Manage technical debt to maintain development velocity and minimize production incidents
• Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as member of engineering management team
• Coordinate execution across cross-functional teams

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience
• 3+ years of technical leadership experience
• 3+ years of hands-on coding in Go, Java, and/or JavaScript
• Proven experience designing, building, and deploying secure, scalable products and services
• Strong passion for coaching and building leaders
• Ability to enable and motivate teams
• Cross-functional collaboration skills with ability to make hard decisions and tradeoffs
• Experience managing remote teams
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with high autonomy

Nice-to-Haves

• Background in financial technology or blockchain
• Experience with API and service architecture
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and team management at scale
