About the role

Role Overview

You'll be Mobena's first dedicated UI Engineer, owning the frontend of their flagship product Mobena Evolution. You'll work directly with the CTO (backend/algorithm-focused) and designer-founder to build fast, maintainable, and scalable user interfaces from the ground up.

Responsibilities

Choose and justify the frameworks and tools that best fit the project needs
Build the UI from scratch, establishing clear, maintainable patterns for components, state management, styling, testing, performance, and accessibility
Turn Figma designs into functional interfaces
Collaborate to refine and re-frame screen designs as needed
Connect the frontend to backend APIs (REST, GraphQL, or similar)
Lay groundwork for future mobile clients

Requirements

Shipped an interactive application (web, desktop, or mobile) via coursework, open source, side project, or professional work
Care about usability and design quality
Learn by building things; comfortable with hands-on development
Comfortable acknowledging knowledge gaps and learning as you go
Can defend technical choices clearly and take ownership of successes and mistakes
Comfortable in early-stage, collaborative environments

Nice-to-Haves

Experience with mobile development
Familiarity with existing prototype code in Vite JS

Technology Stack Flexibility

Open to established web stacks (React, Angular, Svelte, Vite) or cross-platform/native solutions (Qt, WASM, .NET MAUI, Tauri, Electron, Tk) if you can justify the choice.

Mobena is a remote-first startup based in New York building modern multi-generational tax and estate planning software for advisors serving America's wealthiest families. The company is currently a three-person team developing their flagship product, Mobena Evolution.
