Fractional Design Systems Lead

Role Overview

Kindred is seeking a Fractional Design Systems Lead to architect and execute Design System 2.0 during a significant company rebrand. This is a strategic, systems-thinking role focused on building the foundation for how Kindred ships product and ensuring design language is seamlessly integrated with the codebase.

Note: Part-time engagement (~20 hours/week), 3-month contract with no guaranteed extension.

Key Responsibilities

• System 2.0 Architecture: Lead end-to-end creation of a modular design system, defining tokens, components, and patterns for web and mobile platforms
• Rebrand Translation: Partner with stakeholders to codify new identity guidelines into a functional, multi-platform UI kit
• Technical Orchestration: Implement a "Single Source of Truth" workflow ensuring design changes automatically flow to code
• Process Automation: Leverage AI-driven tools to reduce manual handoffs, audit component health, and streamline documentation

Requirements

• 5+ years of design systems leadership experience, ideally at design-forward companies or high-growth startups
• Systems Orchestration: Deep expertise with platforms like Knapsack or Supernova
• Figma-to-Code Integration: Experience building custom Figma-to-GitHub actions or similar CI/CD integrations for token and component automation
• Figma Mastery: Expert-level proficiency with Figma Variables, Advanced Prototyping, and Code Connect
• Development Literacy: Fluency in JSON/style dictionaries, React component structures, and ability to collaborate with engineering teams
• Portfolio: Demonstrated expertise showcasing complex system logic, naming conventions, and documentation
