Director of Engineering

Role Overview

Director of Software Engineering reporting directly to the CTO. This is a high-impact leadership position that combines strategic engineering leadership with hands-on technical involvement in a remote, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) from planning to deployment, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget
• Implement and optimize Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) to drive delivery of high-quality software
• Partner with product management to create detailed product roadmaps, aligning feature development with business priorities
• Define and enforce engineering best practices to enhance collaboration, code quality, scalability, and efficiency
• Communicate progress, risks, and opportunities to stakeholders, identifying alignment between technical initiatives and business goals
• Oversee end-to-end user testing processes and incorporate customer feedback into continuous improvement
• Own architecture decisions and articulate technical investments aligned with business outcomes
• Balance build-vs-buy decisions, manage vendor software integrations, and optimize for speed and quality

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• 10+ years of software engineering experience
• 5+ years leading teams while remaining technically hands-on
• 5+ years of hands-on technical leadership experience
• Hands-on experience with Python and TypeScript
• Strong background in software development and technology practices, ideally in e-commerce or high-scale digital environments
• 1+ years of startup work experience
• Fully authorized to work in Canada or US
• Remote work capability required
