About the role
Role Overview
The Developer II will play a crucial role in the development, enhancement, and support of applications at Gesa Credit Union. This position works fully remote within Washington, Oregon, or Idaho and requires independently delivering significant features end-to-end while contributing to technical design decisions and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test code in alignment with Gesa's coding standards and established patterns
- Develop custom Web APIs to integrate software components (REST/SOAP)
- Write unit tests for own and others' software components; contribute to basic integration testing
- Participate in technical design discussions and propose implementation approaches
- Optimize application performance and identify bottlenecks within owned components
- Design and implement security measures for assigned application areas; follow secure coding practices
- Participate in code reviews to improve code quality, security, and maintainability
- Participate in incident response and problem resolution for production issues
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for developed applications and systems
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance for existing applications
- Identify and address technical debt; recommend achievable process improvements
- Mentor associate and entry-level developers through pairing and code review feedback
Required Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
- Experience in agile and scrum environments
- Working knowledge of web security principles and security systems
- Ability to analyze information and recommend process improvements
- Self-motivated with ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple complex tasks
- Ability to lead or facilitate technical discussions and collaborate across teams
- Ability to mentor junior developers and provide constructive feedback
- Working understanding of common application security risks and secure coding practices (OWASP Top 10 awareness)
- Awareness of secure software development practices (secure SDLC/SSDF-aligned) and software supply-chain considerations
- Ability to travel as needed to complete assigned responsibilities
