About the role
Role Overview
Part-time remote contract position for a COBOL Application Developer, available 10–40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL-based applications aligned with customer requirements and industry best practices
- Collaborate with business analysts and other developers to translate functional requirements into robust technical solutions
- Conduct detailed code reviews and debugging to ensure quality and reliability
- Identify and resolve issues within existing COBOL programs to improve performance and user experience
- Document new and updated processes, workflows, and system changes with clarity
- Participate actively in team meetings, providing technical insights and progress updates
- Contribute to continuous improvement of software development processes and standards
Requirements
- Hands-on experience in COBOL development within enterprise environments
- Strong knowledge of COBOL programming, including structured coding and debugging techniques
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in documenting technical information and system processes
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a remote, cross-functional team
- Keen attention to detail and proactive problem-solving approach
- Self-motivated with strong sense of ownership
- Experience with mainframe environments and legacy systems integration
Nice-to-Haves
- Familiarity with financial services, insurance, or similar verticals
- Knowledge of complementary technologies such as JCL, CICS, or DB2
