Cloud Engineer (Ruby/DevOps) 100% remote

Role Overview

Lead the migration of cloud infrastructure fully in-house, moving from a hybrid setup (AWS + 50+ Rackspace Cloud servers) to a unified, automated, and monitored environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and manage AWS infrastructure (EC2, S3, CloudFront, Aurora, etc.)
• Automate infrastructure and streamline deployments using Ansible
• Optimize databases (MySQL, Redis) and tune system performance
• Build monitoring and alerting solutions using Collectd, Grafana, Kuma, or similar tools
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
• Implement proactive security practices with a "security-by-default" approach
• Collaborate across teams on adjacent disciplines (backend, data, visualization)

Required Experience

• 3–5+ years of hands-on DevOps experience
• Strong AWS expertise (certifications welcome)
• Proven mastery with Ansible; Capistrano experience is a bonus
• Deep experience with MySQL/Redis and system optimization
• CI/CD automation skills (GitHub Actions preferred)
• Fluency in at least one scripting language (Ruby or Python)

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience in analytics, ML workflows, or data processing
• Visualization and server monitoring expertise (Grafana, custom dashboards, D3)
• Background in web/backend software engineering
• Data science, data engineering, or pipeline building skills
• Passion for clean, maintainable code and cross-functional collaboration
